On Friday February 6, 2010, I was invited to spend a week in Haiti caring for those injured in the earthquake. Within minutes, my friends and family rallied support. The whirlwind planning began. I was scheduled to leave February 10, 2010 and return on the 17th. THAT was the only fact I knew for sure.

I began to piece together details over the weekend, but not enough to paint a clear picture. I would be working at a hospital in Milot, Haiti with an organization called CRUDEM. There was housing, food and water provided for all volunteers.

The night before departure, I was more scared than I had ever been in my life. And when I awoke the morning of February 10th, I was physically sick to my stomach. But I went. And I couldn't be more glad.

Over the next few days, weeks, months, I will be posting thoughts on my experiences. I expect it to take a while because there are many layers of emotion I need to examine.

But all in all, I must be the luckiest girl alive to have been a part of something so great.

Just wanted to commend you on your trip to Haiti. Both my father and my (soon to be) sister-in-law made the trip and had some harrowing stories about the incredible destruction. My (actual) sister makes routine trips to Haiti every summer, so we're very familiar with the situation over there pre-earthquake. Regardless, I look forward to reading about your experiences here on our forum.
