On Friday February 6, 2010, I was invited to spend a week in Haiti caring for those injured in the earthquake. Within minutes, my friends and family rallied support. The whirlwind planning began. I was scheduled to leave February 10, 2010 and return on the 17th. THAT was the only fact I knew for sure.
I began to piece together details over the weekend, but not enough to paint a clear picture. I would be working at a hospital in
Milot, Haiti with an organization called
CRUDEM. There was housing, food and water provided for all volunteers.
The night before departure, I was more scared than I had ever been in my life. And when I awoke the morning of February 10th, I was physically sick to my stomach. But I went. And I couldn't be more glad.
Over the next few days, weeks, months, I will be posting thoughts on my experiences. I expect it to take a while because there are many layers of emotion I need to examine.
But all in all, I must be the luckiest girl alive to have been a part of something so great.
