Picture the Dead

Picture the Dead, a mystery novel (with extensive graphic elements) by Adele Griffin and illustrated by Lisa Brown, is an ambitious title for the launch of Sourcebooks Fire, our new young adult imprint. Stunning illustrations of daguerreotypes, family portraits and clues along with a troubling mystery and a more than one meddling spirit give this historical a Cold Mountain feel for the teen audience. Jennie’s heart is broken when her fiancé’s brother, Quinn, returns home alone from the front lines of the Civil War. She knows before he opens his mouth that her beloved Will is dead. Quinn is wounded, both inside and out, and as they grow closer the unmistakable spirit of Will grows increasingly violent. Now she must use her ability to connect with the spirit-world to unearth the mystery of his death. Was he murdered? Did her become a cold-blooded killer? Is the spirit protecting her, or trying to keep her for himself? Time is running out as Jennie hurries to piece together the mystery of her fiancé’s death before she is banished from her home by the domineering Aunt Clara. Can Jennie discover the truth before she loses everything, including her sanity? This intriguing combination of historical romance, clever mystery, and graphic novel is illustrated by bestselling artist Lisa Brown. The visuals portray all of the clues that the protagonist encounters allowing the reader to visually uncover the mystery along with Jennie.

The website www.picturethedead.com looks fantastic! I look forward to exploring it as you work on it.

I especially want to see the hair jewelry! There's a museum in Kansas City called Lila's Hair Museum that supposedly has a collection of such things. I wanted to see it when I was visiting family in KC, but I was voted down 7 to 1. :(
