Help us pick the NEW title for Magic Most Foul!!

Back in January, you guys helped us pick a great cover for Leanna Renee Hieber’s book, MAGIC MOST FOUL.  Now, we need a new title!  To refresh your memory, it’s a historical paranormal romance set in 1882 New York City.  Think: gas-lit streets, gorgeous dresses, misty nights, cobblestone streets, gothic overtones.

After reading the excerpt below, tell us which of these titles do you like best:

Glimmer in the Dark of Night

Dark Night of My Soul

Secret Things Be Known

The Other Side of Darkness

MAGIC MOST FOUL excerpt

Leanna Renee Hieber

November 8, 2011; Sourcebooks Fire

I threw my caution aside as I opened the curtain obscuring Denbury’s portrait. Seeing him again was every bit as breathtaking as the first time. Would it always be so?

And then I noticed that much like Mrs. Northe, Denbury’s eyes looked a bit sunken, a bit older, wearied.  Though still devilishly handsome, something changed about him.

I studied the particulars of the scene.  The book “The Girl” remained jutting out from the shelf.

And then I noticed it.  There was a new shift.  Something out of place.  Different.

On his desk, the pristine blotter bore droplets of ink, the quill was lying on its side rather than upright in the shaft of the inkwell. Two words seemed to quite scream up at me from a note that faced my direction upon his desk.

  Yes, you!

  I nearly fainted.

I scrambled backwards, my small bustle grazing a potted fern that nearly toppled to the floor but for the corner of the balustrade that caught its fall.  I tore off my gloves and tried to hastily gather up the bit of soil that had spilled onto the floor.  Perhaps, I thought, when I turned back to the painting, that note would not be there and the whole ordeal would be proven a welcome hallucination.

  But no.

I looked at the note.  Then up at Denbury.  I swear to you that he stared back at me.

And wait till you get to the part where Natalie actually goes into the portrait with Lord Denbury.  Not to mention ghostly dreams, demons, and some serious wardrobe envy.

Here are the choices again:

Glimmer in the Dark of Night

Dark Night of My Soul

Secret Things Be Known

The Other Side of Darkness

Not a fan of any of these titles?  Make up your own.  Two lucky commenters will get an early copy of Eyes in the Mirror by Julia Mayer, a July release.  Winner to be chosen Friday, 3/18.

The Other Side of Darkness

I like Glimmer in the Dark of Night... something about that title

The Other Side of Darkness

I just love that title. It's so fitting for a gothic tale.

Definitely The Other Side of Darkness. It's the only title there that I really like and it would stick with me, the others wouldn't (the first one would've been good if it was shorter - like, if it was just Glimmer in the Dark, cutting off the "of Night" part).

Hey folks! Thanks for your votes.

Magic Most Foul will remain the series title.

The author votes for "The Other Side of Darkness" because it evokes the dark and otherworldly journey of this novel, particularly considering the two worlds Natalie crosses between.

Second choice is "Glimmer in the Dark of Night"

Can't wait to share this novel with all of you!

First choice: Glimmer in the Dark of Night

Second choice: Secret Things Be Known

If I had to give it a title based on the premise: 'Clothed in Oils' or 'Painted In'

I definitely think The Other Side of Darkness - it's just an appealing title, and seems to roll off the tongue, unlike the others. That's my opinion anyway :)

secret things be known

HI! I love this little excerpt! I think that the title: Glimmer in the Dark Night showed the eerie, creepy tone but hinting in on the elegance (or glimmer) of romance spicing up the piece. Silver Moon in the Dark has another tone that is similar! Good Luck!
My vote is for The Other Side of Darkness.
I really like "The Other Side of Darkness," because it has a mysteriously suspenseful feel to it.

Just wanted to explain that while 'The Other Side of Darkness' sounds really cool, I couldn't pick it because my brain kept wanting to say the film title 'The Other Side of Heaven' which is just too similar.
